“It’s seriously a joy to work with Capcom. “Kobayashi-san has been wonderful,” said Shankar. He has been working directly with Hiroyuki Kobayashi, a veteran producer at Capcom who worked on the original DMC and Resident Evil games, as well as 2007’s DMC Devil May Cry: The Animated Series, produced by Japanese animation studio Madhouse. “The entire team both from the management side and the creative side have been so incredibly supportive and gracious,” he said. Shankar commented that working with Capcom on this project has been “a dream”. Pratt has recently been cast as the lead in high-profile animated movies based on both Super Mario and Garfield. “I can also confirm that Chris Pratt won’t be voicing any of the characters,” Shankar joked. “I can confirm that Vergil is in it, as well as Lady, and of course Dante as well,” he said. While Shankar would not reveal specific story details, he confirmed that several DMC franchise favorite characters will appear. Shankar explained that Season 1 will include “eight episodes”, but that the story will not conclude there: Just as with Castlevania, he is planning a “multi-season arc”, meaning that it will unfold over multiple connected seasons.

The scripts have been written in collaboration with Alex Larsen, who wrote the screenplay for the feature film Bodied (produced by Shankar and Eminem, among others) and who has more recently written on the Netflix anime series Yasuke. “The season 1 scripts are done,” Shankar told IGN Japan in a new interview. MORE: Super Smash Bros.Adi Shankar, the producer behind Netflix’s acclaimed Castlevania series and the recently announced Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix, has revealed some more details about his upcoming anime series based on Capcom’s Devil May Cry franchise. By hitting that sweet spot in overall challenge and still maintaining the same flair in combat, despite some sacrifices made to complexity, DmC: Devil May Cry has a lot going for it that Capcom should consider looking back to.ĭmC: Devil May Cry is available now for PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Some may see this as a negative, but it also places DmC: Devil May Cry in a unique position as the most accessible entry in the franchise. While still a challenging game in many respects, it doesn't hold a candle to the original series. The enemies and boss battles are still in DmC, but are arguably not as hard as before. The main Devil May Cry series is recognized for its crushing difficulty, with gargantuan boss battles and relentless waves of enemies. The great variety of long range and short range attacks, as well as heavy and light attacks, all help to vary the moveset, keeping things fresh after several hours. Button mapping and combo patterns are simple, but also easy to remember, ensuring that as many players as possible will be pulling off the sensational attacks. While the redesign of Dante may not be the most complex or beloved, the game makes up for it with one goal: to be relentlessly entertaining. The combat mechanics specifically, while simple, are satisfying to pull off and flashy enough to provide a compelling alternative to the main series. While a lot of these elements come down to personal taste, this reboot was arguably nowhere near the quality of its main series - but it still had merit in other areas. Some were quick to voice displeasure with regards to DmC: Devil May Cry's new direction in terms of visuals, tone, and main character Dante. However, in between the fourth and fifth entry, the series received a reboot in 2013 called DmC: Devil May Cry that was developed by Ninja Theory as opposed to Capcom.įrom the moment the reboot was revealed, it had an uphill battle.
